Extremely attractive farmhouse in a prime location!
The small village of Óbánya is located in a beautiful hilly area. Although the village is small, it has many facilities because the village is very popular with tourists. People come from everywhere for the beautiful nature, walking and cycling routes and the many streams and historic buildings and traditions such as the potters. Óbanyá is very centrally located and near the beautiful shopping city of Pécs. (approximately 35 minutes)
Some general information about the village and its possibilities:
Óbánya is 26 km northeast of the city of Pécs (the fifth largest city in Hungary). Although more and more tourists are discovering this favorite holiday destination in the Mecsek area, there is plenty of room. The small municipality of Óbánya, which has nearly 170 souls, is located in the valley that runs from Mecseknádasd to Kisújbánya. Nature is still unspoiled and it will stay that way because “the Mecsek” has been declared a protected nature area for many years.
Óbánya is located on the east side of this area, surrounded by beautiful forests, in a beautiful narrow valley. The village has a special atmosphere. Parallel to the road to Óbánya flows a clear stream, the so-called “old stream”. Left, and then right again of the road. The houses are on either side of any street – the Fõ utca – often old but beautiful. The farmhouses usually have a part and a court, which ends with a (wine) cellar built in the mountain.
It is estimated that the village receives 50,000 visitors a year. Every Hungarian has ever been there. Probably in his / her youth when they roamed the woods of the Mecsek with the school class for a few days. They must have found a home in one of the táborházak then. That is still happening now. When the school year starts and ends, it is high season and a few buses with children arrive every day.
It is a typical Hungarian farmhouse, situated on a practical plot of 346 m2, equipped with all modern comfort and the whole is in a good and immediately habitable condition. (even for Western European standards) Many authentic details are still present and provide a very atmospheric appearance. With a living space of 71 m2, the farm is large enough to live there permanently and with all the comfort. There is a living room, kitchen with dining room, bedroom and a bathroom with toilet. The spacious covered terrace of approximately 18 m2 gives extra living space and it is wonderful to relax here while enjoying a real Hungarian wine!
A typical classic Hungarian farmhouse in good condition and in a top location and also in a very lively village and also with many rental possibilities!
Electricity, water and gas are present and the drainage runs through the sewer. For heating there are gas convectors, electric heating and a wood stove. Internet and TV connection are possible!
In 1992 Óbánya – the first of all Hungarian municipalities – won the so-called “Kósa Károly prize. The German “Reader Association Óbánya” has a multi-year tradition and watches over the history and traditions of the village. In the building of the Reader’s Association (Fõ u. 70) there is an exhibition of old utensils. You can view clothing, photos, documents from earlier times. Products from the long pottery history of Óbánya are also on display.
If you are looking for a characteristic gift, you simply walk into the pottery. Tasty utensils and decorative items are offered here. These days pottery is being practiced by several residents. Ceramics are still produced in the traditional way in the workshops of József Teimel and István Keszler. Modern techniques are used in other places. Other souvenirs that remind you of your visit to Óbánya can be found in the Souvenirshop Óbánya in the center of the village. Here you will find an extensive range of souvenirs and gifts.
In the village you can choose from different accommodation options: guest house, holiday homes, camping or rooms with breakfast. There is a restaurant and there are excursion programs. Close together are a shop for groceries, the souvenir shop, the bus stop, the letterbox and the local café.
Óbánya (German: Altglashütte) is a place (község) and municipality in the Hungarian county Baranya. Óbánya has 155 inhabitants (2001), most of whom belong to the Danube-Swabia: the majority of the population has a German dialect as the first mother tongue. The village is, just like Mecseknádasd, known for its potters.
Óbánya is an attractive point for hiking tourism. Along the stream a dirt road runs through the forest with a footpath to Kisújbánya (German: Neuglashütte). The path is provided with educational information. Halfway is the former Friends of Nature House, now privately owned
